Our Story

The three co-founders of Home Grown Fuels started this journey as children; fishing, hiking, camping, canoeing, and star gazing. One of us grew up on the West Coast, one in the Midwest, and one in New England. In addition to our geographic diversity, our lives have included military service, government service, entrepreneurial quests, and advocacy for those less fortunate. We are strategists, environmentalists, mechanics, and entrepreneurs. We are majority women-owned, give preference to veterans and ex-offenders when hiring, and volunteer in the community at homeless shelters and schools. Passion and profitability are at our core.

Now five years into self-funded research, Home Grown Fuels will site our first biochar production facility at the former paper mill in East Millinocket, Maine. Our commitment to sustainable innovation starts with biochar. We call our product designer biochar, designed to remediate PFAS and destined for advanced manufacturing products such as 3D printing. We extract carbon from wood chips using pyrolysis. We generate our own power and our facility will be near net zero.

As we look to the future, we will expand the use of wood chips to the production of renewable fuels. Come grow with us.
